1. Play a game of backyard cricket
What is more Aussie than a game of cricket in your very own backyard (or front yard/street, whichever is bigger). It's fun, allows the whole family to join in, and is as Aussie as it gets. Plus, you can even use your wheelie bins as wickets!
2. Have a classic Aussie BBQ
This Australia Day, why not 'throw a shrimp on the barbie'. The barbecue is a staple to the Aussie way of life and what better way to celebrate the day than doing it the Sam Kekovich way and cooking up some lamb (or whichever meat you fancy).
3. Grab your swimmers and head to the beach
A public holiday and beach day go hand in hand for many Australians. It's hard to beat a day in the sun, building sand castles, working on a tan, playing a game of beach volleyball, and swimming through and over big waves. The only negative is the dreaded sunburn showing up.
4. Go to your local pub for a drink
If you don't feel like staying at home, why not head to your local pub for a scooner and chicken parmy. A lot of pubs around the country will be playing live music and have Australia Day specials on their menu.
5. Keep the kids cool and entertained at home
As the public holiday lands in the middle of Summer, it calls for many Summer time activities. A few of our favourite ways to cool down in the Summer heat include:
- Throwing a water balloon/water gun fight
- Running through the sprinklers
- Slipping down a slip 'n' slide
- Taking a dip in the pool (or blow up pool)
- Eating some fresh watermelon
- Chomping on a Zooper Dooper or ice block
