Circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD) is a family of sleep disorders which affect an individual’s sleep timing. Regardless transient or chronic, CRSDs impact negatively upon a wide range of individuals, including the elderly, shift-workers and jet travellers who move rapidly across various time zones. In addition, several forms of insomnia affect a large population in the community. Both CRSDs and insomnia share a common feature, i.e. the sensitivity to melatonin, a hormone secreted by the pineal gland.1
REDUCE SLEEP LATENCY
It is common for shift-workers to suffer from sleep disruptions. A chronobiotic is an agent that can regulate the internal body clock’s sleep-wake cycle.
Due to its chronobiotic properties, melatonin is capable of readjusting dissociated circadian rhythms in shift-workers, allowing them to sleep at odd hours.2
Numerous studies have shown that melatonin therapy given 30 minutes prior bedtime in shift-workers has significantly improved their sleep onset latency and sleep efficiency.2
ALLEVIATE JET LAG
When individuals travel to a new time zone, their endogenous circadian rhythms fall out of synchony with the day/night cycle at the traveler’s destination. This state of imbalance in the body’s natural “biological clock” results in jet lag. Some symptoms of jetlag include depressed mood, daytime sleepiness, impaired alertness, insomnia and loss of appetite.3
Supplementation with melatonin may reset the body’s sleep-wake cycle as well as relieving daytime fatigue associated with jet lag, effectively preventing or reducing jet lag. The use of melatonin by air travelers shows promise to prevent phase shifts from jet lag.3
Insomnia is a term referring to both the subjective symptoms of difficulty initiating sleep, frequent night or early morning awakenings and to an underlying disorder. Multiple studies have demonstrated the efficacy of melatonin efficacy in improving and promoting sleep in patients with insomnia.4,5

How to use
For best results, take 1-2 wafers at least 20 minutes prior to bedtime. When travelling, take 1-2 wafers before expected bedtime in the new time zone and as required or as recommended by your physician.
Store in cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children. Use only if carton is sealed.
This product works fast to promote and support sound sleep. It may help combat the debilitating effects of jet-lag. It is not meant for prolonged consumption. May cause drowsiness.
